This case deals with allocation of shifts corresponding to Emergency Department doctors in a hopital. The challenge lies in the fact that the assignment has to take into account legal constriants, as well as hospital policy constraints. The case shows how to automate such a process, reducing the manager's work load from 30 hours to less than 2.
